Abstract
The application of strategies based on the students’ skills can contribute to their formation. The objective of this article was to diagnose, precisely, the tea-ching-learning strategies in the mathematical and linguistic development of children and adolescents with Down syndrome at the Agustín Cueva Tamariz Special Education Unit in Cuenca, Ecuador. In order to achieve this article, the interpretative paradigm, qualitative phenomenological approach and descrip-tive scope were applied to a sample of eight teachers who, through their testimony, provided data related to basic mathematics and language skills. Finally, the strategies that were applied in the institution are presented, which were designed based on theories and principles according to the students’ learning styles.
