Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

The city of Cuenca is located at an altitude of 2550 meters above sea level, which causes a reduction in the power of the engines of motor vehicles due to the decrease in atmospheric pressure and the amount of oxygen in the air, resulting in an increase in the emission of pollutants in the exhaust gases and an increase in fuel consumption. To this must be added the types of fuels available in the market, which generate different responses in internal combustion engines. By means of a two-level factorial experimental design with intermediate points, the degree of influence of extra and super gasoline, in addition to the stoichiometry of the mixture and the ignition timing on engine operation is determined. Based on optimization, the operating point of the engine is modified, improving performance by 1.59% and reducing pollutant emission concentrations by up to 8%.
