Abstract

We are undoubtedly facing one of the most important challenges in the education sector, regardless of countries, pedagogical systems and models, or levels of training, the expansion of the COVID-19 virus is marking a turning point in educational action around the globe. We believe that, except for those programs strictly designed to be developed in virtual mode, no other system, including the university system, as well as the teaching communities that provided strictly face-to-face training, were sufficiently prepared to ensure the teaching-learning process in these times of crisis. We are aware that the educational objectives will surely not be covered in their entirety, since the different elements of the curriculum, such as contents, resources, methodologies, among others, require not only time for their planning, but above all they requested, at the time, previous teacher training processes in the management of platforms and tools with appropriate technologies, strategies for the administration of study time and homework, etc. In short, multiple lines of training were definitely undervalued, since no one could have noticed that millions of people were confined to compulsory confinement, as the only mechanism of prevention of an evil that still has no decisive cure. Obviously it has not only been the school in its total extension that has been affected, the health and sanitary systems are the most needed and cared for in these times, however, an educational reflection on how this crisis is being faced, can serve in the future as a decalogue to consider on how to proceed in circumstantial situations such as a pandemic. COVIDa-20, is a group of professors of different nationalities and affiliations, who united by the passion in education and research, we want to launch an idea of solidarity, through which we will build a reflection on those issues that directly or tangentially affect education. Paradoxically, in the so-called information era we feel disoriented precisely because of the bombardment of unreliable sources, which are gradually undermining people in general and leading them to make poor decisions on issues such as childcare at home, school management guided by adults in spaces with or without technological inputs, and so on. The 14 chapters presented are organized in 3 sections, the first called "Covid-19 and Education. The first section, entitled "Covid-19 and Education. First indications", is based on 5 chapters that attempt to contextualize in detail the causes and effects of the pandemic in the educational environment, delving into emergency remote education and the implementation of the virtual modality. On the other hand, the second section, organized in 4 chapters, is built based on a heterogeneous analysis from other areas of knowledge, specifically, from communication and economy to education, proposing diagnoses, risks, preventions directed towards the pandemic situation. Finally, the section "Ecuador in the Pandemic. Problems and Solutions" incorporates 5 chapters in which a review of the multiple incidences exhibited in Ecuador regarding the pandemic is made through the academic prism supported by data that lead to short, medium and long term solutions. In the face of the crisis, this work seeks not only to elucidate the problems but also to provide a glimmer of hope to the people and communities. On behalf of the authors, we hope that you feel reflected in these lines and that the alternatives provided to overcome this transition meet your interests.
