Abstract
The present research is focused on optimal switching of transmission lines (OTS) after the presence of N-1 contingencies in power systems; by means of OTS the transmission stage is reconfigured after a fault occurs, in this way, it is sought to reduce the loss or demand output of the system and to reduce the probability of a massive blackout. OTS is a very flexible method that allows to solve several problems that arise in the electrical system; mainly in losses and operating costs. The equations that govern the OTS and an approximation of the method are presented; the objective of using OTS is to maintain in the minimum margins of operation of the electric system (voltage, frequency, power balance between the generation stage and the demand), facing an N-1 contingency and the reliability of the SEP will be evaluated both in prefailure and post-failure by means of reliability indexes. OTS is a methodology that allows restructuring the transmission stage of the SEP, in order to maintain adequate levels to the system and reduce losses that may occur.
