Abstract
The Ecuadorian indigenous movement evidenced in its lastmobilizations (October 2019 and June 2022) a confrontationwith the media and press workers. This situation could havebeen read as a result of two interrelated factors: on the one hand, the tense relationship and delegitimization that for ten years thegovernment of Rafael Correa established against the Ecuadorianpress; and on the other hand, the new horizon of struggle thatthe indigenous movement, and in particular Confederación deNacionalidades Indígenas del Ecuador [CONAIE], implementedby moving from a perspective of identity struggle to one of classstruggle. This perspective considered media as instruments ofthe bourgeois sectors to build dominant ideology so that thepress and its workers became the object to be foughtagainst. This endangered not only the free exercise ofjournalism, but also one of the fundamental bases of democraticinstitutions such as freedom of expression.
