Abstract
Gender violence has been constructed as a social problem in various semiotic-material matrices. This article describes these matrices and analyzes their effects on Quito's municipal laws and services. Five matrices are evidenced: sexuality; health; human rights; security; and disciplinary practices. It shows how the voices that sought to generate ruptures in the status quo were silenced, while those that have perpetuated the patriarchal order became hegemonic.
