Abstract

Ecuador’s automotive assembly sector is facing a critical juncture due to trade liberalization with China, the lack of industrial promotion policies, high taxes, and economic contraction. The closure of General Motors in 2024, which accounted for 51% of national assembly, highlights the sector’s vulnerability and its socioeconomic impacts. This research analyzes the bankruptcy risk of Ecuadorian assembly companies (Omnibus BB, Ciauto, and Aymesa) during the 2020–2023 period through a comparative analysis of the Altman Z1 and Springate models. This is a descriptive-documentary study based on financial statements reported to the Superintendence of Companies, Securities, and Insurance. The results will classify companies into healthy, grey, or distress zones, identify differences in the predictive capacity of both models, and propose strategic recommendations to mitigate financial risk and enhance the sector’s sustainability.
