Abstract

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a progressive form of dementia that affects behavior and cognitive function. Assessing knowledge about this disease is crucial for proper diagnosis and treatment. Various assessment instruments have been adapted and validated in different cultural contexts, but their reliability varies. Objective: To analyze the scientific literature on assessment tools used to measure knowledge and progression of FTD, with the aim of conducting a meta-analy sis of reliability, focusing on Cronbach’s alpha in different cultural adaptations and contexts. Methodology: Four scientific databases (Web of Science, Scopus, PsycINFO, and PubMed) were reviewed to gather information on the reliability (Cronbach’s alpha) of FTD assessment tools in diverse populations. Data on the population, validation method, cultural context, and internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha) of each instrument were collected. Results: The findings showed that the internal consistency of the instruments varies by context. For instance, the FTDKS scored a Cronbach’s alpha of .846 in the United States, .740 in Spanish-speaking countries, and .800 in Poland. The FTD-FRS showed an exceptional alpha of .975 in Brazil. The meta-analysis model (nStudies = 3) demonstrated an overall reliability of .85 (CIα = .80-.90). Conclusion: FTD assessment tools exhibit reliability variations depending on the cultural context. Proper adaptations are essential to improve their effective ness in assessing knowledge about the disease, thereby facilitating better diagnosis and patient care.
