Abstract
The mission of the IUS is to offer higher education to young people from the working classes and vulnerable sectors of society and to contribute to their transformation. Among the functions of higher education is research, which as a political act allows us not only to understand the reality and the young people we educate, but also provides us with the data to question our practices and improve them. The case of the research project Indigenous women and higher education at the Salesian Polytechnic University of Ecuador is presented. The study provides relevant data to understand the reality of indigenous women who are part of the beneficiaries of the educational project of the Intercultural Bilingual Education Career and its contribution as a higher education program aimed at indigenous peoples - one of the most vulnerable sectors of Ecuadorian society - to improve their quality of life and that of their community. Finally, also allows us to delineate Latin American-inspired pedagogical alternatives that enter into dialogue with the pedagogy of accompaniment and affection of the Salesian Salesian education that places the student at the center of the educational process.
