In 2018, a new law to eradicate gender-based violence came into force in Ecuador, emphasizing reparation. In this article we propose to investigate the conceptions of reparation in national legislation, as well as to show the transformations in the attention to victims of gender violence in the country. The analysis is oriented towards the objective of identifying the obstacles and challenges presented by the application of the new law at the local level. In conclusion, there is a need for greater institutionalization of victims' reparation processes in a context in which they fall mainly on non-governmental organizations with scarce resources or local governments.
