Abstract

This article: "Relationships and tensions in the colonizing projects: missionaries, settlers and Shuar leaders", seeks to clarify the complex relationships that have occurred since late nineteenth century to mid-twentieth century, in the process of regional formation of the Ecuadorian Amazon, specifically in the territorial space of the current province of Morona Santiago. Several actors were or continue to be participants in these processes: on the one hand, there are the native Shuar; and on the other, those who arrived in their territories at different times and moved by different interests. These migratory phenomena finally transformed not only the geographical space but also its entire socio-cultural structure and composition, endowing it with a particular identity.
