Abstract

This instrumental research has the objective of examining the psychometric properties of the Academic Procrastination Scale (EPA) and the Academic Resilience Scale (ARS-30) in the Ecuadorian university context. A sample of 788 students belonging to public and private universities in the Metropolitan District of Quito (DMQ) was used for this purpose. The data used in the study were collected by means of written and self-administered questionnaires. For the evaluation of each scale, alternative measurement models were compared by means of Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Regarding the EPA, it is verified that the best fit to the data is achieved from a bifactor structure and the use of a reduced version of the instrument to 12 items (χ²(53) = 234.61 [p < .001]; GFI = .953; AGFI = .931; IFI = .930; CFI = .930; RMSEA = .066). On the other hand, the ARS-30 exhibits a trifactorial structure, with higher psychometric quality of measurement when using a version trimmed to 24 items with respecification (χ²(247) = 951.98 [p < .001]; GFI = .904; AGFI = .884; IFI = .904; CFI = .903; RMSEA = .060). Likewise, the adjusted scales show satisfactory results in terms of internal consistency and nomological validity. It is concluded that the instruments analyzed, together with the proposed adaptations, have acceptable levels of validity and reliability for the measurement/evaluation of procrastination and academic resilience in university students in Ecuador.
