Abstract
The objective of this document is to provide the reader with ethical-professional criteria for the design of electric power distribution system networks. These ethical criteria are intended to help the reader to have a better development as professionals in network design. Designing electrical distribution networks, not only involves knowing the design criteria, application of design standards, but a comprehensive planning based on a network design or redesign, taking into account what factors will facilitate the design of a project and what factors will hinder the design, evaluating these factors will take due consideration to verify whether it is feasible or not the design of the distribution project or not. Many of these factors are no longer simply criteria of the designer to make it feasible to design that project, but are external factors such as the economic part, the political part, land use, costs for operation and maintenance, availability of the required voltage level, among others. However, the professional ethics or deontological part of the designer must always be present when giving priority to the designs of greater social benefit since the distribution companies are public companies and their goal should be to provide electric service with quality and efficiency indexes. Professional ethics will also be present in the approval of particular projects where the high costs of design and construction make the professionals in charge of approving these projects to be tempted to receive economic incentives for the easier approval of these projects. The regulations used for the design of electrical distribution networks are standardized for each region where these design projects are intended to be built. For this purpose, different design programs will be used according to the ease of use and the characteristics required by each distribution company for their designs. Much will depend on the cost of rights for the use of these programs as well as on the part of professional talent (i. e. the knowledge that the designers have to handle certain distribution network design programs).
