Abstract

The objective of this document is to provide the reader with ethical and professional criteria for the design of networks in electrical power distribution systems. These ethical criteria are intended to help the reader to have a better development as professionals in network design. The design of electrical distribution networks, not only implies knowing the design criteria, application of design standards, but a broad planning based on a design or redesign of network, taking into account when which factors will facilitate the design of a project and which factors will hinder the design, evaluating these factors will take the appropriate considerations to verify whether it is feasible or not the design of that distribution project or not. Many of these factors are no longer simply the designer's criteria to make it feasible to design the project, but are external factors such as the economic part, the political part, the use of land, costs for operation and maintenance, availability of the required voltage level, among others. However, the professional ethical or deontological part of the designer must always be present at the time of giving priority to the designs of greatest social benefit since the distribution companies are public companies and their goal should provide electric service with quality and efficiency indices. Professional ethics will also be present in the approval part of particular projects where their high design and construction costs make the professionals in charge of approving these projects be tempted to receive economic incentives for the easiest approval of these projects. The regulations used for electricity distribution network designs are regulated for each region where these design projects are intended to be built. For this purpose, different design programs will be used according to the ease of use and the characteristics needed by each company for its designs. Much will depend on the cost of rights to use these programs as well as on the professional talent (i.e., the knowledge that designers have to manage certain distribution network design programs).
