Abstract

In this report we report the first indications of the presence of transgenic soybean crops in the producing areas of the provinces of Los Ríos and Guayas on the coast of Ecuador. The detection was made through participatory field monitoring, using a kit based on immunological tests. This finding shows the lack of a systematic surveillance monitoring program in the country and the urgency to implement it in order to comply with the constitutional mandate that declares a country free of transgenics.
