Abstract

Child-to-parent violence (IPV) is a problem with significant implications for the health and well-being of adolescents and their socio-family context. To analyze the prevalence and reasons for child-to-parent violence (IPV) in adolescents residing in the province of Esmeraldas. The sample consisted of 309 adolescents (47.2% females and 52.8% males), with a mean age of 14.45 years (SD: 1.729). Ethnicity (69.3%) mestizos, (23.3%) Afro-descendants. (81.2%) live with a father and a mother. The adolescent version C-VIFIP was applied. Descriptive analysis was performed using frequency distribution and relative percentages to obtain the prevalence of IPV and the ratios. Kolmogorov Smirnov (KS) normality test and the Mann-Whitney U to determine the differences between the aggressor and the victim. Towards the Father, the prevalent behavior was Dominance Control (DC) 60.2%. Followed by Economic (VE) 50.5%; Psychological (PV) 46.6%; Physics (VF) 9.1%. The Son exercises DC 31.4%; EV 27.5%; PV 23.0%; VF 5.2%. La Hija has CD 28.8%; EV 23.0%; PV 23.6%; VF 3.9%. Towards the mother, CD 62.1%; VE 49.2%; PV 43.0%; VF 8.1%. Son exercises DC 32.7%; EV 26.9%; PV 21.0%; VF 4.5%. Daughter has CD 29.4%; EV 22.3%; PV 22.0%; VF 3.6%. The difference in the reported ratios was: Instrumental Ratios (p-value: 0.021) and Reactive Ratios (p-value: 0.023). Greater use of IR Sons and RR Daughters. Domain control (CD) was the most prevalent behavior towards both parents, followed by economic (EV) and psychological (PV). Sons have greater use of instrumental ratios (IR), while daughters have reactive ratios (RR).
