Pre and Post Compensation of Chromatic Dispersion in a High-Speed PON

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

The following paper presents the design and simulation of a passive optical network (PON) in which two compensation techniques (pre and post-compensation) were implemented to mitigate the effects caused by the chromatic dispersion that occurs in the sections of fiber G.652D and G. 655. This research uses MATLAB and OptSim software platforms integrated into a co-simulation environment. Data was transmitted using two and four-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM). The nominal line speeds were 25 Gb/s and 50 Gb/s. The results are presented in a graph corresponding to the BER relationship and the reception power for four scenarios where the compensation schemes applied to different modulation levels and transmission speeds are compared.
