The provision of a quality electrical service is the main objective of energy distribution companies. There are affecting problems in the distribution of energy and one of them are the negative effects caused by harmonics present in linear and non-linear loads used by the residential and industrial customer sectors, directly affecting the power factor in a negative way. In this work the power factor produced by the typical loads used in residential areas is measured by means of an intelligent system based on the use of SBC (Single Board Computer), such as the Raspberry Pi and the Arduino. In addition, the effects produced by the power factor are evaluated to determine its influence on voltage distortion in a distribution system.
