Abstract
This book offers an important contribution to political studies in Ecuador in the field of political culture. Starting from political culture as an analytical category of social practices, the author strives for explaining and understanding the structures of meaning that underlie the political behaviors of the university youth. Without ignoring that political behaviors are to be found socially structured and that they express social relationships of power, the author considers that political analysis is always incomplete if one ignores the cultural factors and the systems of values and creeds that intervene en the perception of political phenomenons and the resulting behaviors with a political implication. Taking as a point of reference the empirical facts obtained of a case study, there will be made an analysis of the political culture and the proceedings of primary socialization in the ecuadorian families and of their relationship with the civic culture of the university students; there will be an examination of social representations according to the rights, the law and justice; there will be made a research of the political culture referring to democracy and authoritarian systems and finally to the structures of meaning according to the political parties, the political participation and the political leadership.
