Abstract

The study of poverty has been a constant since the second half of the 20th century. Numerous international and academic organizations have generated an important wealth of knowledge and practical experiences in this field. Theories, approaches and indicators have been developed that have allowed their conceptual and empirical treatment, as well as the proposal of public policies for their reduction. The multidimensional poverty approach has recently been developed. The objective of this article was to characterize, through the methodology of the Multidimensional Poverty Index, the conditions of multidimensional poverty present in the homes of agroecological producers associated with the Ecuadorian organization FECAOL, promoting the determination of a diagnosis that serves as a baseline for the subsequent monitoring and evaluation of the actions and policies that are implemented. It was found that 80% of FECAOL members' households are in poverty, either multidimensional or extreme multidimensional. The multidimensional poverty rate is 54.16%. The extreme multidimensional poverty rate is 12.5%. The intensity of poverty suffered by poor households is 0.35 and the multidimensional poverty index is 0.189. It is concluded that although the multidimensional poverty rate and index are moderate, there is an important vulnerability threshold that can aggravate the organization's situation.
