Abstract

Ecuador has 1,064 radio stations, including public, private and community radio stations. There are 64 community radio stations, representing 6% of the total number of stations. Quito, the Ecuadorian capital, has five community radio stations with AM and FM frequencies. This qualitative-quantitative research seeks to make visible the experience of Radio Bocina as a community media not registered in the frequencies of the radio spectrum, but rather as a medium that through the Internet has kept the community informed. Within the theoretical framework, community radio stations are contextualized from an exploration of bibliographic sources of studies in Latin America. The results show Radio Bocina as a media that was born from an initiative of communication students from the parish of La Merced, in the city of Quito. This work analyzes the forms of citizen participation that took place to consolidate the proposal of this media, the conflicts and achievements that have arisen since its creation until today. creation to the present day.
