Abstract
Proposing an analysis for the debate around the cycle of recent popular mobilization in Ecuador, whose epicenter was the national strike called by CONAIE in June 2022, requires a necessary contextualization exercise in which some of the conditions of possibility of the mobilization in relation to the role of the actors in the configuration of the field of dispute, as well as its results and perspectives. By way of entry, the article argues that the persistence and radicalization of the neoliberal project experienced by Ecuador during the last two governments (Moreno and Lasso) has meant the accelerated deterioration of the living conditions of large sectors of the population, strengthening the concentration of wealth in the financial and business elites (ECLAC Economic Report June 2022) and their privileges. As a way out, the repressive violence and the lack of willingness to dialogue persist in erratic government conduct, contradictions in the government team and an increasing government dependency on the military and police forces.
