Abstract

This book narrates the experiences of children with autism who participated in the EVALTEA research project. Through the testimonies of their parents, key aspects of their life stories are presented: biographical data, diagnosis, characteristics of the disorder, treatments and therapies received. The book highlights the fundamental role of technology, especially communication boards, in the development of language skills. These resources allowed children to go from being considered non-verbal to emitting words and improving their social interaction. The use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication Systems (AACS) was key in this process. This publication becomes a useful guide for families with children diagnosed with ASD as it offers guidance on how to support their communicative development through specialized therapies and technological tools. In addition, it demonstrates the positive impact on their quality of life and on the emotional well-being of their families.
