Abstract

This book is the effort of several authors and is composed of a compilation of research papers that have been submitted as Master's theses. Four chapters deal with key issues to understand the functioning of information systems. The first chapter mentions the importance of auditing in telecommunications companies to avoid economic losses and proposes a methodology that allows the construction of alarms or automatic reports to determine the origin of the problems of the audited system. The second chapter aims to propose an optimization solution for the flow of institutional academic information, applied to the Academic Teaching Information System. It stores most of the records related to the generation of evidence of university accreditation, internal control of academic processes, research, community outreach and management, with analysis of information flow optimization based on the use of the KP algorithm. The third chapter addresses the issue of heterogeneous autonomous databases and describes mechanisms for using the stored data to calculate indicators of the Generic Career Evaluation Model. As an example, the case of the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo, which has developed an informatics solution that interconnects autonomous databases, is studied. Finally, the creation of a system for backing up information from virtual environments and end-user computers through the LAN network is analyzed. For this purpose, the analysis, design and implementation at laboratory level of a backup system specialized for these environments is presented, and the feasibility of its implementation from a technical point of view is verified.
