Abstract
La Ley Orgánica de Comunicación en Ecuador: génesis,conflicto, reforma y perspectivas traces the conflictiverelationship between the media and political power inEcuador over the last 14 years. The book describes thecycle of the Organic Law of Communication (LOC) fromits origin in the 2008 Montecristi Constitution to thediscussion promoted by the government of GuillermoLasso that led to a new law. Pablo Romero Guayasamínand Stefanía Insuasti present the events that marked thegenesis of this regulation, its implications and scope. With rigor and balance, they analyze how the OrganicLaw of Communication affected confidence in thetraditional press and reveal its lack of plurality and itsalignment with corporate interests, but also how politicalpower has always sought to curtail the fundamental rightof freedom of the press. Therefore, this academic workwarns about the dangers of censorship and self-censorshipand is a call to value the importance of the press and freeexpression in a democratic society.
