Abstract

This technical project was developed by the company ALL PLASTIC, where the production process of a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) container is optimized by finite elements, with the execution of the ANSYS® computational tool. The measurement parameters of the container are obtained from an element already produced by the company to proceed with the design in the INVENTOR software. Once this task is completed, the geometry is imported from ANSYS using the specialized POLYFLOW package. Later, we investigate the variables that affect the extrusion blow moulding process to introduce the parameters required by the software. The moulding process is experimentally simulated and validated based on the mathematical model of viscoelasticity, where the mould closure and the inflation process were simulated by implementing an integral viscoelastic model K-BKZ under isothermal conditions. With this, predictive results were obtained about the thickness distribution in the walls of the blown product. To introduce the appropriate features into the simulation, the preform is geometrically characterized by experimental techniques.
