Optimal Distributed Generation Location to Reduce Energy Losses

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

The high demand for electricity worldwide has caused great interest in Distributed Generation (DG), as it is an aspect that can be used in rural areas, where the existence of water resources for centralized generation is scarce, thus trying to minimize electricity losses. It is one of the main problems addressed by the electricity system, factors that are subject to a number of parameters and variables that affect the efficiency of the grid in different ways. The location of distributed generation is vitally important as poor GD positioning increases the rate of losses. For the analysis of results, a first case study is evaluated, which does not contain the introduction of a Distributed Generation and another case that does. This document describes a distributed generation system with an installed capacity of 2.3 MW, which corresponds to case 2. Using the Neplan software, the objective is to analyze the losses obtained in the system in order to propose an improvement solution; thus, managing to reduce electrical disturbances in the system through optimization techniques, which have as a principle to provide a solution to the current problem using the IEEE 14-bar test system.
