Abstract

This paper presents the optimal implementation of the wireless network taking into account the use of the electromagnetic spectrum, the data link layer, the physical layer and the power consumption used to transmit information in smart metering systems. For the analysis, a surface was defined in which smart meters were randomly deployed to ensure that all devices perform optimal routing, reaching the gateway through the creation of a wireless sensor network. Different wireless communication technologies were analyzed to calculate the information size and populate the data link layer fields to determine the actual size carried by the physical layer. This information is used to optimize the channel usage time, distances, power consumption and bandwidth requirements of each technology.
