Abstract

In this research work, a generic radial distribution system was optimized, using capacitors to reduce losses. To obtain the number of capacitors to be installed, size and location, a heuristic method of intelligent search based on the LSF (Loss Sensitivity Factor) was used, together with the Matpower program. Matpower was used for the solution of the radial power flows by means of the power summation method, the constraints and the objective function were analyzed. For the study a design period of ten years was considered, as a case study the IEEE radial distribution system of 33 buses was used.
