Abstract
Numerical simulation of a turbulent flow through a butterfly valve is a useful technique to investigate the physical phenomena of the flow field. A two-dimensional numerical analysis of a turbulent flow of liquid water through a butterfly valve was performed using Ansys FLUENT, which solves difference equations. The flow characteristics through the valve at different percentages of valve disc opening with uniform inlet velocity were investigated. Velocity-based screen independence was performed to correctly choose the type of screen used throughout the analysis. This simulation provides the velocity and turbulence kinetic energy contours especially in the section where the butterfly valve is located. The results of the two-dimensional analysis can be useful for the design of the valve.
