Abstract

A comprehensive education implies the balanced development of various aspects in students that lead to intellectual, human, social and professional development. Inquiring into these needs allows the planning and execution of strategies that provide quality training. The objective of this research work was to identify the integral training needs of students in the first levels of civil engineering. The methodology used was quantitative-descriptive on a sample of 117 students of the Salesian Polytechnic University of Ecuador. Two questionnaires were used to measure the need for a technical-humanistic education and the need to cultivate physical-mathematical thinking. The results obtained, based on descriptive statistics, reflected the importance attributed by the students to integral and interdisciplinary training, allowing us to conclude that they feel the need to receive this type of training through integrating experiences that combine the four areas of knowledge: knowing, doing, being and living together.
