Abstract
The drastic transformations that the Ecuadorian Amazon is undergoing, expressed in the expansion of extractivism, the deterritorialization of indigenous peoples and the consolidation of the State as a key and preponderant actor, are aspects yet to be understood as the result of long-standing historical processes. This collective work contributes to their understanding and deepens the complex relationships between the actors that interacted in the regional conformation of the Ecuadorian Amazon, emphasizing the role of the missions and the indigenous peoples together with other agencies such as the military, settlers, miners and regional elites. The book brings together specialists with different profiles and institutional affiliations (historians, educators, anthropologists, political scientists...) whose contributions provide a complex and heterogeneous vision, and shed light on the present through regional case studies, discourse analysis and research on the thought and action of leading figures.
