Abstract

Music in Ecuador throughout the twentieth century, as in every time and place, was and is very diverse. Like the composers who gave birth to great musical works in the past, there is an important guild of authors in both popular and academic music that remained anonymous and others insufficiently recognized. This is the case of the author to whom this article refers. In Zámbiza, one of the oldest rural parishes of Quito, Manuel Mesías Carrera Carvajal was born on December 4, 1923. Very young (1942) he began his musical and compositional career. Author of an abundant artistic and cultural production archived in his personal collection that is organized in documents, books, original literary works, universal music, sound arrangements and fifteen unpublished collections of popular and religious music.
