Abstract

The Salesians of Ecuador are celebrating the first centenary of the arrival of the Missionaries in the Vicariate of Mendez. It is a reason for joy and gratitude to God and congratulations to all the Missionaries, who have carried out the evangelization of the Shuar and Achuar of our Amazon Region. To celebrate the centenary of the Salesian Missions in Ecuador, it is necessary to be aware of what we are celebrating, what we are thanking God for and what we are asking Him to forgive us for. For all this, history is of great help. There can be no authentic feast or celebration without history. The many heroic deeds of so many Missionaries in our Vicariate who generously placed their lives at the service of the Gospel are worthy of pleasant memory, celebration and imitation: they opened up paths of faith, sowed the seed of the Word of God and promoted in every way the recipients of their missionary activity. The love we profess for our Missionary Ancestors demands that we do not let their valuable and ever-present teachings be lost.
