Las Violencias Difusas en los Medios de Comunicación. Desafíos y Propuestas de Prevención

Examines the presence and impact of diffuse violence in the media. Diffuse violence, defined as subtle and normalized forms of violence that include social exclusion, racism and marginalization, does not receive the same media coverage as other more explicit types of violence. This lack of visibility contributes to its perpetuation and normalization in society. The chapter proposes primary and secondary prevention strategies to combat diffuse violence, emphasizing the importance of education and awareness-raising. It is suggested that the media adopt codes of ethics, promote inclusive narratives, and collaborate with other social sectors, such as governments, NGOs, and educational institutions, to comprehensively address this problem. Preventing diffuse violence requires a multidisciplinary approach involving all sectors of society. The media, in particular, should take a proactive role in disseminating accurate and responsible information, avoiding the glorification of violence and promoting values such as tolerance and respect.
