Abstract
Ecuador, the second smallest country in South America, with friendly and enterprising people, is one of the seven countries with the greatest biodiversity in the world, it has an innumerable variety of species of animals, plants and microorganisms, which make it different (ANDES, 2010) . Despite the wealth of its land and the drive of its people, the country continues with high levels of poverty (although it has significantly reduced them in the last 6 years) and especially inequality. With the aforementioned background, we consider of fundamental importance to carry out an analysis of SMEs in Ecuador and particularly in Cuenca and the relationship with the local financial sector.
