Abstract

This paper identifies the needs of families with children with disabilities and analyzes how the family's requirements influence the continuity of the parents' life projects as well as the family's strengths to support the process of social and educational inclusion of their sons and daughters with disabilities. In the analysis of the information gathered from the application of the survey and focus groups to the families of students attending various special education schools, it was found that a high percentage of parents abandon and/or postpone their personal life projects because of the birth of a child with a disability, Similarly, a list of needs that educational institutions do not take into account or do not believe should be met was identified, when the school has the function of providing relevant support to students and their families in order to provide a quality education that develops the highest levels of autonomy of their students.
