Abstract
The purpose of this article is to identify the language problems that affect the cognitive development of seventh-year students of Basic General Education of Ecuador. To achieve it, this research begins with documentary analysis, which allowed to identify the main currents of language and their link with cognitive development. In addition to this, interviews were conducted with three Language and Literature teachers and a bachelor in speech therapy with experience working with students of the proposed year of schooling. The interviews allowed it to have depth knowledge of the problems that arise in the classroom related to language development, as well as the approach given in teaching practice to this subject. Based on all the information recollected, a final section is proposed that describes activities and the possible structuring of methodological strategies to overcome language problems.
