Abstract
The approach to community water management in Ecuador is a topic of vital importance. The example of the Pesillo-Imbabura project, where community organization was fundamental for its implementation, gave rise to this research. Meetings of leaders, assemblies of users, protests, mingas, dialogue with different actors and cooperation were key in the development of the Pesillo project: an example of how union and a common goal are key to achieving development results in indigenous territories. This publication gathers historical background on the forms of access to water until the creation of the Community Water Management Boards (Juntas de Administración de Agua Potable Comunitarias). It analyzes both the right to water and community organization and, in Pesillo, finds an example that makes visible the struggle for water at the national level.
