Abstract

This text describes an experience forged from the national emergency situation, in which based on the principles of collaborative work, academia, public and private companies and citizens in general were united without conditions to contribute in the manufacture of technical aids to health personnel. On February 29, 2020, the Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health announced the first confirmed case of coronavirus in the country, being the third nation in the region to present infected within its territory and quickly becoming one of the worst hit by the pandemic. , especially the province of Guayas, which just four weeks after the first reported case increased its daily mortality rate by at least 10 times the usual (Dube and Córdoba, 2020). In this vein, it is important to mention that in addition to the stoppage of activities and insufficient medications, there was a shortage of protective equipment required by health personnel to minimize the risk of contagion during care for patients with COVID-19 . In effect, this caused an increase in demand, which was added to by citizens, who in their desperation to safeguard their health and that of their family, depleted the existing reserves of supplies.
