Abstract

Starting in the year 2000, Latin America has experienced a new political cycle defined by some as a change of time rather than a time of change. The consolidation of so-called progressive governments in Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Bolivia and Uruguay, among others, has in some way changed the prevailing neoliberal model in the last decades of the 20th century. The Ecuadorian case is no exception. President Correa managed to gather a large majority of the electorate around his criticism of the model characterized by an acute financial crisis and political instability, which he defined as the "long neoliberal night", obtaining the political support of various sectors of civil society. Since then, his “Citizen Revolution” project has focused his discourse on improving social justice through an adequate redistribution of wealth and for this he undertook profound structural changes taking advantage of the oil boom. The reforms in the health sector, education, roads, administration of justice, etc., were applied from the Constitution of "Good Living" approved in 2007. These postulates arise from the concept of Sumak Kawsay, the worldview of peoples ancestral that consider poverty as a social phenomenon rather than an economic one that can be overcome through new forms of production, distribution and consumption that respect collective rights, minorities and nature to allow citizens to live in a dignified way guaranteeing well-being of future generations.
