Abstract

The family from a rereading of Aristotle's politics, an analysis of Aristotle's work is presented in order to establish the existing differences between classical and modern perceptions of the family; at the same time, the authors propose to recognize the relevance of the family in the construction of society and the State based on the analysis of works of contemporary political philosophy: Hannah Arendt's The Human Condition (1993) and Giorgio Agamben's Homo Sacer (1998); works which, according to the authors, take up, extend Aristotelian thought and establish a series of guidelines to understand the place of the family in the public sphere.
