Abstract
On a global scale, this pandemic has revealed difficult and painful situations. In the workplace, dozens of faceless and nameless individuals are fighting their own war (mostly informal workers), who struggle between the uncertainty of letting their families starve to death due to the lack of daily income or going out to look for it at the risk of becoming infected and being sources of contamination for others. This context definitely has a negative impact on society and on the global, national, local and family economy. Ecuador is a country with great natural wealth, but with a strong economic crisis dragging on for several decades, which has been accentuated by the situation left by the pandemic. The fall in the price of Ecuadorian oil: in March 2020 it was quoted at an average of USD 23.0 per barrel, while the previous year a price per barrel of USD 51.3 was forecast for this period. This situation was further aggravated when the price of the WTI (West Texas Intermediate) barrel plummeted internationally in April 2020, reaching its lowest levels in almost 20 years, due to the strong contraction in worldwide demand caused by a global economic slowdown (Banco Central del Ecuador, 2020).
