Abstract

Traditional and digital media intertwine, creating hybridizations and changes in content and forms of communication. Young people are particularly quick to adopt new technologies and access information incidentally through social networks and online browsing, which impacts the amount of unconscious information they are exposed to as consumers. "Transmedia reading" is a common practice among young people, involving interaction with different media and platforms to gain a more comprehensive understanding of a topic. This user participation fosters the production and distribution of news, as well as the formation of online communities. The research question focuses on the news consumption habits and transmedia reading of Communication students at the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, Quito campus.
