Abstract

This study explores the convergence between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and media literacy through a bibliometric analysis of scientific output between 2013 and 2025. A corpus of 77 articles indexed in Scopus was compiled, applying search strategies that combined Spanish and English terms related to media literacy (media literacy, educommunication) and AI. Through techniques of lexical co-occurrence analysis, academic collaboration networks, and thematic clustering, the dominant lines of research and the most influential intellectual actors in this hybrid field were identified. The results reveal that AI acts as a hegemonic conceptual core, while topics specific to educommunication occupy peripheral positions. Likewise, key nodes linked to disinformation and digital pedagogy emerge, reflecting contemporary concerns. Among the limitations are the dependence on a single database and the quantitative approach, which could omit qualitative nuances. The study provides an initial mapping of the field, highlighting an incipient theoretical integration and pointing to the need for greater interdisciplinary synergy to balance the techno-centric perspective with critical approaches to media literacy.
