Integration of the Pomodoro Technique in a Social Robot to Work on Concentration in 8-Year-Old ADHD Children

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

This study introduces a work plan inspired by the Pomodoro technique, incorporating active pauses guided by a social robot, aimed at enhancing concentration in children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The significance of this research lies in addressing the challenges faced by teachers, who often lack effective strategies to manage fatigue and improve focus in students with ADHD. This deficiency often results in monotonous classes that hinder students’ concentration and, consequently, their learning outcomes. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methodologies. The d2 attention test was used as a key instrument, administered both at the beginning of the intervention to establish a baseline and at the end to assess changes following the implementation of the strategy plan. The results highlight the potential of structured strategies, like the Pomodoro technique with a social robot, to improve attention and learning in educational contexts.
