Abstract
The rapid evolution of information and communication technologies (ICT) has reshaped modern society, altering the dynamics of interaction, business operations, and governmental functions. However, this progress has also led to a surge in cybercrimes, underscoring the critical need for robust data protection measures. This article explores the intricate landscape of data protection laws in two Latin American countries, Peru and Ecuador, analyzing their legislative approaches, similarities, and disparities. In dissecting the legal frameworks, the article examines how each nation defines and addresses cybercrimes, delineates penalties for non-compliance, and establishes mechanisms for safeguarding personal data. Furthermore, insights into effective Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) tailored to the regulatory frameworks of Peru and Ecuador are provided, aiming to enhance data protection practices, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with pertinent laws and regulations. By delving into the complexities of data protection laws and security policies in Peru and Ecuador, the article offers valuable guidance for businesses, governments, and individuals navigating the intricate terrain of safeguarding personal data amidst evolving technological landscapes.
