Abstract

Currently, Ecuador receives immigrants from several continents. Referring to Venezuelan nationality, at the beginning of 2018 approximately 547,000 Venezuelans entered Ecuador through the Colombian border. With positions in favor and against, Venezuelans have faced dissimilar difficulties in the Ecuadorian territory for their social integration; hence, the objective of this research is to analyze the intercultural relations of the Venezuelan immigrants in Ecuador. With a quantitative approach, thequestionnaire “Intercultural Relations in Plural Societies” (version: Ecuadorian group) was applied. The investigation involved 190 Venezuelans residents in the city of Quito and Guayaquil, different inclusion criteria were met by the people who filled the questionnaire. The results showed that the biggest problems are linked to acts of perceived social discrimination and what is linked to their safety. The sociocultural competence used to inquire Venezuelans about their attitude to integrate showed significant values of interest and willingness to become part of the Ecuadorian society.
