Abstract

Labor informality is a structural problem in the city of Guayaquil caused mainly by the difficult economic situation of the country, the lack of opportunities offered by the labor market, the lack of experience of young applicants, among others. Informal work, although it can be a great alternative for the present, can generate negative effects in the medium term for the worker and their safety, which is why it is important to control and regulate compliance with labor laws. The objective was to analyze labor informality in the Active Economic Population of the city of Guayaquil: Dimensions, causes and consequences. The research was carried out with a descriptive scope and mixed approach. The selected sample was 385 workers belonging to the economically active population and 5 tax experts, who provided the information to carry out the research. The results show that the causes of informality are the difficulty of finding employment due to experience and education, as well as the poverty that the country experiences, among the consequences is non-compliance with labor laws for the worker and tax evasion.
