Abstract

In recent decades, bullying and cyberbullying have become established as significant problems in school communities around the world. Moral emotions, such as guilt, shame, empathy, and indignation, play a crucial role in understanding the dynamics of these interactions. This article aims to examine the influence of moral emotions on bullying and cyberbullying among adolescents. To do so, a systematic review was conducted in the Web of Science, Science Direct, Taylor and Francis, and Scopus databases, analyzing 8 studies published in the last 14 years that used validated instruments to measure these emotions in adolescents aged 10 to 18 years. The results show that moral emotions not only reduce participation in bullying but also encourage active defense of victims. These findings underline the importance of integrating the development of emotional skills into school programs as a preventive strategy against bullying. This paper highlights the need for future research on the effective implementation of moral emotions-based interventions in educational settings.
